Obviously, it's for someone else to choose a book, but please hurry. I have a Borders gift card burning a hole in my wallet.

I just finished an interesting book about women in China. Had a segment on footbinding that was just disturbing. It was called "Snow Flower and the Secret Fan". Or how about "the Kite Runner"? I haven't read it yet, but it looks interesting...

Let's so one you haven't red yet. The Kite Runner sounds good. I just looked it up on amazon.

Hey Y'all,

AMQ and I have both read the Kite Runner & I think she'd agree that it's not book club worthy. I like the idea of something that you haven't read before...

I also dont want to read the kite runner again...although the first part was very good. I would like to recommend The Danish Girl, but of course I have read it several years ago.

Hey Erin,

Several years ago doesn't count - I'm sure you've forgotten lots. I say we do it! Plus it looks REALLY interesting.

What does everybody else think?

BTW - welcome back from Portugal

It sounds excellent--as long as we're sure several years ago doesn't count.

Sorry, The Danish Girl is not for me. Anyone read The Time Traveler's Wife? Summary sounds interesting. However, if you all decide on the DG, I'll just read something else instead, perhaps the TTW. I also want to read The Devil Wears Prada, as petty as that may be. I haven't seen the movie yet, mainly because I have this thing where I won't see a movie based on a book until I've read the book. But movies I've already seen years ago don't count (such as the Star Wars series-nope, I haven't read those and don't intend to any time soon)!! Anyway, I'll be checking in to see what you picked. I still have to finish Namsake! I am making it a goal to do so this weekend as it's due back at the library on Monday. Ciao!

Hey - I'm game with TTW, it sounds as though it will certainly give us plenty to discuss, plus with a seemingly whimsical and fun nature.

BTW Caryn, I've refused to read Prada all this time, but it keeps nagging at me. I fear that I may just succumb in the end! We can compare notes!

I heard the TTW is really good too, one of the ladies I work with said it was excellent. BTW hello all from a very hot London. I am eating up books with my commute into Town everyday, read Portrait of Dorian Gray last week and am on Three Men in a Boat this week. I have a shelf full of books purchased whilst travelling in my last jobs that I just never started. Maddy and I think we have TTW, but just can't locate it. Enjoy Mel x

Okay, this is how way out of it I am. I have NO CLUE what the TTW is. I even tried googliing it with the following results...
TTW Table-Top Wargaming
TTW Tactical Training Wing
TTW Tell the World
TTW The Tolkien Wiki
TTW Through the Wall
TTW Through the Wave (soldering in electronics manufacuring)
TTW Time To Wait
TTW Transtracheal Washes or Washing
TTW Trim- en Trainingsgroep Weesp
So, someone please enlighten me!

I'm with KK on the Devil Wears Prada. We could read the Danish girl while Caryn reads DWP before it goes out of the theater and then read TTW next when she's ready to come back. What do you think, Caryn?

Hey guys -

Can we get a consensus on The Danish Girl as our next book and TTW as the following book? I too have a gift card burning a hole in my pocket. (And you should all be proud that I haven't spent it on Java programming books!)

I'm game for whatever the group wants to do. I'm going to the library tomorrow and will probably check out DG & TTW, although I have no interest in transexuals. The DWP is out and requested by 72 people before me! I may break down and buy the $6 paperback. I acutaly contemplated it a few years ago when it came out and it looked amusing (not necessarily interesting, but entertaining; you know I'm a little ashamed to admit my interest in it!). I'm sure it's petty and shallow, as the movie will most likely be, although the book will probably be better than the movie. I'm mainly interested in the fashion aspects, not necessarily the oh-so-predictable plot. Also, I have no burning desire to plop down $10 to see it, so I'll most likely wait until it comes out on DVD or TV. I'll find something to read while you all read DG. Like I said, I'll flip through it tomorrow; it may not be as bad as I think. It's not like I don't have an open mind, but I'm just affraid of gory details, you know?? I mean if someone wants a sex change, it's obviously their choice, but don't discuss it with me. Too much info, you know?!! The thought makes me ill. It's just not natural. Anyway, I'll be fine either way. If our next book is TTW, I may get a head start on it since I'm way behind and it's taking me forever and a day to finish Namesake. You know, I don't really care for Namesake all that much, which is why I haven't finished it yet. When I'm really into a book, I'll finish it within a week or so. I'll elaborate later on my thoughts-I still have a few more pages to read tonight before I return it tomorrow, so I'm logging off now. Sayonara chicas!
